BILLY GERHARDT : With The Curse of Oak Island Season 14 officially premiering on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 9 PM ET / 8 PM CT on HISTORY, the countdown to another chapter of the treasure hunt has begun.

And as Rick and Marty Lagina prepare to resume their search, one familiar face is ready to return to the demanding work that has made him an essential part of the Fellowship: Billy Gerhardt.

His contribution has always gone beyond operating heavy machinery.

From challenging excavations to the team’s most ambitious digging operations, Billy represents a crucial part of what keeps the search moving forward.

Why has this seemingly understated team member become such a beloved figure among Oak Island fans?

BILLY GERHARDT: THE MAN WHO TURNS THE TEAM’S PLANS INTO REALITY

There is a reason Billy Gerhardt has remained one of the most recognizable members of the Oak Island Fellowship.

Since joining the series in Season 4, he has developed a reputation as the person the team can rely on when an investigation moves from planning and discussion to demanding physical work.

While Rick Lagina and Marty Lagina lead the overall search, and Craig Tester helps coordinate its technical and investigative direction, Billy operates in a completely different but equally essential part of the operation.

His expertise lies in heavy equipment, excavation and moving enormous quantities of earth under challenging conditions.

For viewers, seeing Billy climb into his excavator has become a familiar part of the Oak Island experience.

But operating machinery on this island is not simply a matter of digging wherever the team wants.

Every excavation must be approached carefully.

Beneath the soil could be old structures, wooden materials, unusual stone arrangements or objects that have survived underground for centuries.

Removing too much material or disturbing the wrong location could complicate the investigation.

That is where Billy’s experience becomes particularly valuable.

His ability to operate heavy machinery gives the Fellowship the practical capability to investigate locations that would otherwise be extremely difficult to access.

And as the next season approaches, his presence is especially significant because the team has several unfinished excavation questions waiting for attention.

WHY BILLY COULD HAVE AN IMPORTANT JOB IN SEASON 14

Season 14 is bringing the Fellowship back to two major areas of investigation: the legendary Money Pit and the enormous stone feature on Lot 8.

According to HISTORY’s premiere description, Rick, Marty and Craig will resume their search while facing new discoveries in both locations.

The giant boulder and its surrounding stone cradle on Lot 8 are particularly interesting because the team has been trying to understand what lies beneath and how the structure was constructed.

This is precisely the kind of investigation in which Billy’s practical expertise matters.

The team cannot simply rely on historical research, geological measurements or laboratory analysis.

At some point, the ground itself must be opened, material must be removed, and the structure must be examined more closely.

Billy’s job is to help make that possible.

The Lot 8 operation presents a particularly delicate challenge.

The team needs to investigate the area without unnecessarily disturbing the stone arrangement they are attempting to understand.

Heavy equipment can accelerate excavation, but precision and careful coordination are equally important.

The Money Pit presents another set of challenges.

After years of drilling, digging and examining underground evidence, the team continues to pursue the question of what may be buried beneath the island.

Each new excavation requires equipment, planning and experienced operators who understand the demands of the terrain.

Billy’s involvement does not mean that he personally determines what the discoveries represent.

That responsibility belongs to the wider team and its specialists.

But without the physical work that he helps deliver, many of those investigations would never progress beyond an idea.

There is an important distinction here: Rick and Marty may identify where the next question needs to be investigated, but Billy helps turn that decision into an actual excavation.

WHY FANS HAVE BECOME SO ATTACHED TO BILLY

Billy’s popularity is unusual because he has never needed to be the loudest personality on the island to attract attention.

Unlike the central investigators, who frequently discuss theories, historical possibilities and the meaning of individual discoveries, Billy’s appeal comes from his straightforward personality and his connection to the physical work.

Fans have watched him operate enormous machines, move difficult terrain and contribute to some of the team’s most demanding projects.

Over time, his presence has become part of the identity of the series.

There is also something refreshing about the contrast between Billy and the rest of the Fellowship.

Oak Island is filled with complicated historical theories, scientific investigations and discussions about civilizations that may have visited the island centuries ago.

Billy represents the practical side of the operation.

He does not need to deliver a long explanation about a historical theory.

When the team needs machinery and excavation expertise, viewers know why he is there.

His understated personality has also helped him develop a loyal following.

He often becomes a memorable part of an episode simply by doing his job, and that natural presence has made him a recognizable fan favorite.

Another reason viewers value Billy is that his work connects the audience to the reality of the search.

The treasure hunt is not only about mysterious artifacts or dramatic discoveries.

It involves difficult conditions, enormous machinery, repeated excavation and countless hours of physical effort.

Billy embodies that side of Oak Island.

As Season 14 approaches, his continued presence among the familiar members of the Fellowship gives fans another reason to look forward to the new episodes.

The season’s announced investigations at the Money Pit and Lot 8 could require exactly the kind of experience he brings to the operation.

Ultimately, Billy’s importance is not measured by how many theories he proposes or how many discoveries carry his name.

It is measured by the work that allows the entire team to keep searching.

And that raises an interesting question for the new season: with the massive stone feature on Lot 8 still demanding closer investigation and the Money Pit continuing to hold the team’s attention, could Billy’s excavation work become one of the most important parts of the next stage of the Oak Island search?
