Parker Schnabel and rival Tony Beets (a.k.a. King of the Klondike) tease what’s ahead on new episodes of the Discovery Channel reality show

Gold Rush is digging up more chaos with over $130 million on the line.

PEOPLE has the exclusive trailer for season 17 of the reality show, which premieres Friday, Oct. 2, on Discovery Channel. In the preview, the miners celebrate “high” gold prices while bemoaning unforeseen hiccups and gambles that come with their line of work.

“So much chaos is gonna be had,” says Parker Schnabel in the trailer, adding that he doesn’t want to “get beat by” his longtime rival Tony Beets “again.”

Schnabel, who joined the show at 16 when he took over his grandfather’s mining business, is determined to pull a $65 million jackpot and surpass Beets, a.k.a. the “King of the Klondike,” who invests $20 million in new equipment.

A logline for the new installment teases, “As soaring gold prices attract a new wave of fortune-seekers to the Yukon, mining veterans and ambitious newcomers alike risk everything in pursuit of life-changing riches.”

Discovery Channel notes in a press release that the price of gold reached “a staggering $5,000 an ounce,” during filming, meaning “more than $130 million worth of gold is up for grabs” on the show.

“Fierce rivalries intensify, record-breaking hauls are within reach, and pressure mounts as crews battle harsh conditions, costly equipment failures, and risky decisions that could make or break their season.”

Another miner, Rick Ness experiences a health crisis this season. “After confiding in longtime friend Zee about his fears for the future, Rick receives a life-altering diagnosis and a bombshell from his crew that threatens to derail his entire mining season,” a synopsis adds. “As challenges mount, Rick must fight to reclaim both his health and his season.”

The all-new season of Gold Rush, produced by Raw Television, returns Friday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
